Workers, Activists Protest Low Wages at D.C. Walmart on Black Friday

WASHINGTON (WNEW) — Protesters outside of the Walmart on H Street called for better wages for the corporation’s workers on Friday.

The protests for workers to receive an increase in pay of $15 per hour are going on at Walmart locations across the country on the busiest shopping day of the year.

“They’ve retaliated against our workers and, you know, we only want our company to become a better company,” Walmart employee Cynthia Murray says. “If they listen to the workers they can make more billions than they’re already making.”

A spokesperson for Walmart released the following statement:

“Perception is never reality with labor unions. The crowds are made up of paid union demonstrators and they are not representative of our 1.3 million associates across the country. This is our busiest time of the year. We’re excited to kickoff the…
