Denton ISD Says New Grading Policy Working, Some Parents Disagree

DENTON (CBS 11 News) – It’s less than a semester into the Denton Independent School District’s new grading policy and some parents are giving it an “F”.

However, district officials told the school board Tuesday night most students say it’s working.

“They appreciate the opportunity, if they don’t learn something the first time, to give extra effort if necessary and to keep learning,” said district executive David Hicks.

Wanting grades to better reflect what students know and not how they behave, the district made a dramatic change this year in the way students are graded.

Teachers stopped giving points for homework and quizzes and now allows students to retakes tests again and again.
