Nurses on Strike at Medstar Washington Hospital Center

LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — Registered nurses at Medstar Washington Hospital Center (MWHC) in D.C. began a one-day strike at 7 a.m. Monday.

The strike was announced due to unfair labor practices committed by hospital executives and refusal to fairly address matters of health, safety and equity for patients and nurses.

In a statement from MWHC, they say they are open and operating on a normal schedule today, despite the “unfortunate” strike.

Replacement nurses are available and will be providing care for patients in lieu of the nurses on strike.

MWHC says since September, they have been negotiating with National Nurses United to reach an agreement that is fair.
