Resident, 2 Pets Die in Ellicott City House Fire


LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — A fire in Ellicott City claimed the life of a resident and two pets Monday afternoon.

Just after 4 p.m., Howard County Fire and Rescue Crews responded to the house fire in the 4500 block of Doncaster Drive. Upon arrival, crews encountered very heavy fire through the roof and consuming the home.

Officials say the occupant was found on the first floor and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police identified the victim as 70-year-old Betty Ann Davis.

Over 60 firefighters worked for nearly an hour to extinguish the fire and are now working to locate and extinguish any fire that remains within walls. Fire investigators are currently on scene and will work to identify the origin and cause of the blaze.

The home was extensively damaged, officials say.
